Keiki Computer Adventures program is designed for preschool-age children from ages 3-5 years old. Here are some answers to commonly asked questions:

1. What do the children learn at Keiki Computer Adventures?
The classes are based on math, reading, science and geography and designed with a lot of hands-on activities both on and off the computer. Most activities are project-based and are made using “curricular themes”, such as Space, Dinosaurs and even the Weather. The children will learn important computer knowledge and operational skills. Each class is 40 minutes long. It consists of a 5-8 minute circle-time usually with a hands-on activity relating to the subject they will be covering on the computer. The children then have a 30-minute session on the computer.

2. What is a session and how long is it?
Each session lasts from 6-12 weeks depending on the time of the year. They calendar year is divided up into 4 sessions. Winter Session- runs from January through March.
Spring Session- runs from April through May.
Summer session runs from mid-June through July or August, depending on the
preschool site.
Fall Session runs from mid-September through mid-December.
As you can see, some of the sessions are longer than others. If a session is 7 weeks or longer it will have 2 curricular themes, each lasting about 4-6 weeks. Each curricular theme will include a Parent Letter that comes home in the beginning telling you the learning objectives for that theme. There is also an Evaluation sent home at the end of each curricular theme letting you know how your child did.

3. What kind of computers does Keiki Computers use?
We go into the preschool site with our laptop computers. They are all windows-based laptops.

4. How are the children grouped in their classes?
The children are usually grouped by their age and ability. There will usually be 1 child per computer. There are some situations where the children are paired up with a partner to do a specific project.

5. Is the Keiki Computer class beneficial for the child if there is no computer at home?
Yes, the computer class is beneficial to both children with and without a computer at home because of the specific curricular themes they learn.

6. How do we sign up our child and what are the billing procedures?
With each new session you are required to fill out a registration form. This eliminates confusion for the teacher whether the parent wanted the child to continue or not. The completed registration form with payment must be sent in before the session starts. Students enrolled in the previous session will not automatically be enrolled in the next session. The tuition is $9.00 per class, including tax. If the session is 7 weeks or longer we will offer an installment plan. A $5.00 administrative cost will be added to each installment you make. The type of installment along with the total cost is noted on the bottom of the registration form. At this time we accept cash and checks only.

7. How are mid-session enrollments, terminations and make-ups handled?
Mid-session enrollments---students may enroll anytime during the session. Your cost will be pro-rated for each class attended.
Terminations---students may withdraw from our program anytime provided a 2-week written notice is submitted. Any pre-paid classes will be refunded.
Make-ups---absences by students due to illness will be made up. Cancellation of classes of our control will be made up sometime at the end of the session. You will be notified in a letter of the date of the make up class.

If you need to talk to the teacher, they are usually there 10 to 15 minutes before class starts setting up and breaking down the computers. You are free to call anytime with questions.
